| 1 | Turbocharger |
| 2 | Clean air duct |
| 3 | Compressor recirculation valve hose |
| 4 | Compressor recirculation valve |
| 5 | Charge air hose |
The compressor recirculation valve is located in the charge air hose. The charge air hose connects the compressor outlet and the charge air cooler.
The compressor recirculation valve prevents the compressor surge during tip out events, and controlled by a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) signal from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The compressor recirculation valve allows pressurized air from after the compressor to recirculate around to the compressor intake.
If the compressor recirculation valve was not present, when the engine throttle closes
- The pressurized air would turn around,
- And go back through the compressor to the intake causing compressor surge.
