Pinpoint Test A: Transfer Case Clutch Lock-Up Tests

  1. A1: TRANSFER CASE CLUTCH LOCK-UP TEST 1 
    • The transfer case clutch status can be viewed on the touch screen via the All Surface Information screen.
    • When the transfer case clutch is disengaged, the front driveshaft will  rotate independently of the rear driveshaft.
    1. Ensure that the transmission is set to Park.
    2. Raise the vehicle on a lift so that the wheels are free of the ground.
    3. Hold one front wheel and attempt to rotate the other front wheel.

    Will the front wheel, front halfshaft and the front driveshaft rotate?

    • Yes  : Transfer case clutch not engaged. GO to A2.
    • No  : Transfer case clutch not disengaged. Install a new transfer case.
  2. A2: TRANSFER CASE CLUTCH LOCK-UP TEST 2 
    NOTE: The transfer case clutch status can be viewed on the touch screen via the All Surface Information screen.
    1. Ensure that the transmission is set to Park.
    2. Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, perform routine - Lock Centre Differential.

    Is the electric hydraulic pump operation audible?

    • Yes  : Electric hydraulic pump active. GO to A3.
    • No  : Electric hydraulic pump inactive. Check the electric hydraulic pump circuit for short circuit to ground, short circuit to power, open circuit, high resistance Repair the wiring harness as necessary.
  3. A3: TRANSFER CASE CLUTCH LOCK-UP TEST 3 
    NOTE:
    • The transfer case clutch status can be viewed on the touch screen via the All Surface Information screen.
    • When the transfer case clutch is engaged, the front driveshaft will not  rotate independently of the rear driveshaft.
    1. Ensure that the transmission is set to Park.
    2. Raise the vehicle on a lift so that the wheels are free of the ground.
    3. Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, perform routine - Lock Centre Differential. Hold one front wheel and attempt to rotate the other front wheel.

    Will the front wheel, front halfshaft and the front driveshaft rotate?

    • Yes  : Transfer case clutch not engaged. GO to A4.
    • No  : Transfer case clutch engaged. Transfer case clutch operating correctly.
  4. A4: TRANSFER CASE CLUTCH LOCK-UP TEST 4 
    1. Refer to the relevant section of the service information and check the transfer case fluid level.

    Is the fluid level correct?

    • Yes  : Install a new electric hydraulic pump and retest. If the fault persists, install a new transfer case.
    • No  : Rectify any fluid leaks, adjust the fluid level as necessary and retest. GO to  A3.
