Fuel Tank And Lines - Overview (G1791750): Overview

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2015 Jaguar XF, 2014 Jaguar XF, and 2013 Jaguar XF. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The fuel system uses an electronic returnless system. The system comprises a fuel pump module mounted in the fuel tank to deliver LP (Low Pressure) fuel at variable flow to the fuel charging and control system on the engine. Fuel pump operation is regulated by a FPDM (Fuel Pump Driver Module) which is controlled by the ECM (Engine Control Module). The FPDM regulates the flow and pressure supplied by controlling the operation of the fuel pump using a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) output. A Fuel LP sensor is located in the fuel feed supply line to the engine and is monitored by the ECM for fuel pump control.

Two fuel level sensors are installed, one in either side of the saddle type fuel tank. The sensors are a MAPPS (MAgnetic Passive Position Sensor) which provide a variable resistance to ground for the output from the fuel gauge

The fuel system also incorporates an EVAP (Evaporative Emission) system which is part of the on-board refueling and vapor recovery feature. The function and operation of the system is designed to meet EVAP requirements to minimize fuel vapor losses.

NAS vehicles are fitted with a FFS(Flex Fuel Sensor) which monitors the percentage of ethanol in the petrol. This allows the ECM (Engine Control Module) to quickly adjust the fuelling to maintain engine stability and driveability. The FFS can determine the ethanol content quickly and works in conjunction with the HO2S (Heated Oxygen Sensors) to determine the ethanol/petrol percentage. The FFS uses 'quick-connect' fuel connectors. All fuel passes through the FFS before reaching the fuel rails. The FFS measures two fuel related parameters (ethanol percentage and fuel temperature).
