SYMPTOM POSSIBLE CAUSES ACTION
Difficulty in filling fuel tank
  • Restriction in the vapor line between the fuel tank and the carbon canister outlet or atmospheric port
  • Check for restrictions/damage. Rectify as necessary
Fuel smell
  • System leak
  • Purge valve inoperative
  • Check for leaks. Rectify as necessary
  • Check the purge valve operation. Rectify as necessary
CHECK FUEL FILLER CAP displayed on message center and only evaporative emission system leak DTCs P0442/P0455/P0456 set
  • Fuel system leak detected
  • Refer to the sections below regarding the diagnostic routine and the special tools. GO to Pinpoint Test A.
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illuminated and only evaporative emission system leak DTCs P0442/P0455/P0456 set
  • Fuel system leak detected
  • Refer to the sections below regarding the diagnostic routine and the special tools. GO to Pinpoint Test A.
DMTL system related DTCs P0447/P0448/P2401/P2402/P2404/P2405/P2406/P2450 set
  • Diagnostic Module Tank Leakage (DMTL) system fault
  • Refer to the sections below regarding the diagnostic routine and the special tools. GO to Pinpoint Test A.
DMTL system related DTCs P043E/P2401/P2402/P2406/P240A set - XJ (X351) 2010 to 2015 model year
  • Diagnostic Module Tank Leakage (DMTL) filter blocked by dirt/ice, due to spray from the road/tire
  • Refer to technical service bulletin JTB00436
