Pinpoint Test G: Fuel Pump Circuit Tests

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2015 Jaguar XF, 2014 Jaguar XF, and 2013 Jaguar XF. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. G1: FUEL PUMP CIRCUIT TEST 1
    1. Check the fuel pump fuse.

Has the fuel pump fuse blown?

    • Yes  : Refer to the applicable SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAM(S) and check the fuel pump circuit for short circuit to ground. Repair as necessary. Install a new fuse and retest.
    • No  : GO to  G2.
  2. G2: FUEL PUMP CIRCUIT TEST 2
    1. Check the operation of the fuel pump relay.

Does the fuel pump relay operate correctly?

    • Yes  : GO to  G5.
    • No  : Repair as necessary and retest.
  3. G3: FUEL PUMP CIRCUIT TEST 3
    1. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the top of the fuel pump module flange.
    2. Connect an ohmmeter to the relevant terminals in the connector on the top of the flange and measure the resistance of the fuel pump.

Is the fuel pump circuit open circuit?

    • Yes  : GO to  G4.
    • No  : GO to  G5.
  4. G4: FUEL PUMP CIRCUIT TEST 4
    1. Remove the fuel pump module from the fuel tank to access the connector under the flange.
    2. Disconnect and reconnect the connector under the flange three times.
    3. Connect an ohmmeter to the relevant terminals in the connector on the top of the flange and measure the resistance of the fuel pump.

Is the fuel pump circuit open circuit?

    • Yes  : Fuel pump internal failure. Install a new fuel pump.
    • No  : Poor connection in the fuel pump module electrical connector due to fretting of the terminals. Install a new fuel pump flange.
  5. G5: FUEL PUMP CIRCUIT TEST 5
    1. Set the ignition to off.
    2. Connect a voltmeter to the fuel pump connector and set to 'DC'.
NOTE: This test is performed whilst the fuel pump is priming the fuel system.
    3. Set the ignition to on and check the voltage at the fuel pump.

Is the measured voltage greater than 1.0 V?
