Test E: Tachometer Does Not Operate

Turn ignition on. Disconnect generator phase tap resistor. Connect voltmeter positive lead to terminal No. 1 (White/Gray wire), and connect negative lead to ground. Turn engine on. If voltage measures 7 volts, repair White/Gray wire, or replace tachometer or instrument cluster. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If voltage is not as specified, replace generator or phase tap resistor.
