Removal & Installation: Removal
- Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
- To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
- To release the fuel system pressure before removing the engine assembly, start the engine without fuel pump relay, and then turn off the ignition switch when the engine stops.
Information
Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection.
- Remove the engine cover.
(Refer to Engine And Transaxle Assembly - "ENGINE COVER ")
- Remove the air duct and cleaner assembly.
(Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY ")
- Remove the battery and battery tray.
(Refer to Body Electrical System - "Battery ")
- Remove the engine room under cover.
(Refer to Engine And Transaxle Assembly - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")
- Drain the engine coolant.
(Refer to Cooling System - "COOLANT ")
- Disconnect the main connector (A) and position switch connector (B) and then remove the wiring mounting clip (C) from the bracket.
- Remove the shift cable (C) after removing the nut (A) and bolts (B).
Tightening torque:
- 9.8 - 14.7 N.m (1.0 - 1.5 kgf.m, 7.2 - 10.8 lb.ft)
- 14.7 - 21.6 N.m (1.5 - 2.2 kgf.m, 10.9 - 15.9 lb.ft)
- Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose (A) after releasing the clamp.
- Disconnect the radiator upper hose (A) and lower hose (B) after releasing the clamps.
- Disconnect the heater hoses (A) after releasing the clamps.
- Disconnect the fuel hose and the purge control solenoid valve (PCSV) hose.
- Recover the refrigerant and then remove the high pressure pipe and low pressure pipe.

- Remove the Engine Control Module (ECM).
(Refer to Engine Control/Fuel System - "ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) ")
- Disconnect the wiring connectors and harness from the engine room.
- Remove the battery wiring protector.
- Remove the roll rod bracket (A) after removing the bolts (B) and (C).
Tightening torque
Bolt (B):107.9 - 127.5 N.m (11.0 - 13.0 kgf.m, 79.6 - 94.0 lb.ft)
Bolt (C): 49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb.ft)
NOTE: Always use a new bolt (B). - Remove the roll rod support bracket (A) after removing the bolts.
Tightening torque:
49.0 - 68.6 N.m (5.0 - 7.0 kgf.m, 36.2 - 50.6 lb.ft)
- Remove the sub frame.
(Refer to Suspension System - "SUB FRAME ")
- Remove the front muffler.
(Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "MUFFLER ")
- Disconnect the driveshaft from the axle hub.
(Refer to Driveshaft and axle - "FRONT DRIVESHAFT ")
- Remove the propeller shaft. [AWD type]
(Refer to 4 Wheel Drive (AWD) System (4WD Control) - "FRONT WHEEL TRANSFER ASSEMBLY ")
- Support the engine and transaxle assembly on a lift table.
- Disconnect the engine ground cable (A) after removing the bolt.
Tightening torque:
7.8 - 9.8 N.m (0.8 - 1.0 kgf.m, 5.8 - 7.2 lb.ft)
- Remove the engine mounting support bracket (A) after removing the bolt and nuts.
Tightening torque
88.3 - 107.9 N.m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 - 79.6 lb.ft)
- Disconnect the transaxle ground cable (A).
Tightening torque:
19.6 - 26.5 N.m (2.0 - 2.7 kgf.m, 14.5 - 19.5 lb.ft)
- Remove the service cover (A).
- Remove the transaxle mounting bolts (A).
Tightening torque:
107.9 - 127.5 N.m (11.0 - 13.0 kgf.m, 79.6 - 94.0 lb.ft)
- Remove the engine and transaxle assembly by lifting vehicle.
- Before removing the engine and transaxle assembly, make sure hoses and wire connectors are disconnected.
- When removing the engine and transaxle assembly, be careful not to damage any surrounding parts or body components.
