Removal & Installation: Removal

  1. Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
  2. Turn the steering wheel so that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.
  3. Remove the knee airbag (KAB) module.

    (Refer to Restraint - "KNEE AIRBAG (KAB) MODULE ")

  4. Remove the multifunction switch assembly.

    (Refer to Body Electrical System - "MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH ")

  5. Separate the wiring clip (A).

  6. Separate the universal joint assembly (A) from the steering gear box after removing the bolt.

    Tightening torque: 

    32.4 - 37.3 N.m (3.3 - 3.8 kgf.m, 23.9 - 27.5 lb.ft)

    NOTE:
    • Always use a new bolt.
    • Lock the steering wheel in the straight ahead position to prevent the damage of the clock spring inner cable.
    • Assemble so that the universal joint hole is inserted matching the cut surface of the pinion shaft.

  7. Disconnect the MDPS connectors (A).

  8. Remove the steering column mounting bolt (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    53.9 - 58.8 N.m (5.5 - 6.0 kgf.m, 39.8 - 43.4 lb.ft)

  9. Remove the steering column & shaft (B) after removing the steering column upper mounting nuts (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    24.5 - 29.4 N.m (2.5 - 3.0 kgf.m, 18.1 - 21.7 lb.ft)
