Removal And Installation: Removal
WARNING:
- When working on the high voltage system, the work should be performed by technicians who have completed the relevant training. A lack of understanding of the high voltage system can lead to serious accidents due to electric shock or short circuit.
- When working on the high voltage system or related components, be sure to observe and be aware of the HIGH VOLTAGE SYSTEM GENERAL SAFETY INFORMATION AND CAUTION . If not, it may cause serious accidents due to electric shock or short circuit.
- When working on high voltage system, make sure to check the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and HIGH VOLTAGE SHUT-OFF PROCEDURES .
- Disconnect the battery negative (-) terminal and the service interlock connector.
(Refer to Battery Control System - " AUXILIARY 12 V BATTERY 4WD ")
- Remove the front wheel and tires.
(Refer to Suspension System - " WHEEL ")
- Remove the stabilizer bar link (A) from the front strut assembly after removing the nut.
Tightening torque:
98.1 - 117.7 N.m (10.0 - 12.0 kgf.m, 72.3 - 86.8 lb.ft)
- Separate the tie rod end ball joint from the front axle.
- Remove the split pin (A).
- Remove the lock nut (B), and washer (C).
Tightening torque:
98.1 - 117.7 N.m (10.0 - 12.0 kgf.m, 72.3 - 86.8 lb.ft)
NOTE:- Do not reuse the split pin.
- Do not reuse the lock nut.
- Be careful not to damage the boot of the link.
- Use a hand tool when removing or installing the lock nut.
- Separate the tie rod end (A) using SST (09568 - 2J100).
- Separate the lower arm ball joint from the front axle using SST (0K545 - A9100).
- Remove the split pin (A).
- Remove the lower arm bolt (B), washer (C), and nut (D).
Tightening torque:
98.1 - 117.7 N.m (10.0 - 12.0 kgf.m, 72.3 - 86.8 lb.ft)
Information
Fix the lower arm ball joint bolt and remove or install the nut.
NOTE:- Do not reuse the split pin.
- Be careful not to change the position of the bolt, nut, and washer when installing.
- Place the support body in the lower arm bolt mounting hole and then rotate the bolt (A) to install it.
Information
Use the support body (A) of the SST (0K545 - A9100).
- Install the support body (B) in the front axle groove (A).
- Rotate the bolt (A) to insert the support body (B) to release the front knuckle.
- Install the main body (A) between the front strut assembly and front lower arm.
Information
Use the main body (A) of the SST (0K545 - A9100).
- Secure the main body with the wire (A) to prevent it from falling.
- Install the c-clamp (A) by rotating the handle (B) to prevent the main body from slipping.
Information
Use the C-clamp (A) of the SST (0K545 - A9100).
- Tighten the bolt (A) to widen the gap between the main body so that the front lower arm can be removed from the front axle.
- Unlock the driveshaft lock nut caulking (A), by hammering on a chisel or suitable tool.
- Remove the driveshaft lock nut (A).
Tightening torque:
294.2 - 313.8 N.m (30.0 - 32.0 kgf.m, 217 - 231.5 lb.ft)
- Separate the front driveshaft (A) from the front axle by using the SST (09517 - 4E000).
- Separate the front axle assembly (A) and front driveshaft (B).NOTE: When removing the driveshaft, do not force pull or over bend the axle.
- Remove the front under cover.
(Refer to Motor and Reduction Gear System - " FRONT UNDER COVER ")
- Remove the driveshaft (A) using the pry bar (B).
NOTE:
- Do not insert the pry bar too deep, as this may damage the oil seal.
- Do not pull the driveshaft with excessive force. It may cause internal damage or dislocation and may damage the boot or bearing.
- Plug the hole of the reduction gear case with the oil seal cap to prevent contamination.
- Support the driveshaft properly.
