Integrated Electronic Brake (IEB) System Air Bleeding Procedures

NOTE:
  • Do not reuse the drained brake fluid.
  • Always use genuine DOT4 brake Fluid, Using a non-genuine DOT4 brake fluid can cause corrosion and decrease the life of the system.
  • Before opening the reservoir tank cap, clean any debris or material around.
  • Make sure that no dirt or other foreign matter is allowed to contaminate the brake fluid.
  • Be careful not to get brake fluid on the body or vehicle and, if so, wipe immediately with a clean cloth.
  • Fill the brake fluid during air bleeding to prevent the brake fluid level from falling below the 'MIN' line.
  • Close the SST's air shut-off valve first before opening the brake reservoir cap to fill the brake fluid.
  1. Disconnect the battery negative (-) terminal and the service interlock connector.

    (Refer to Battery Control System - "Auxiliary 12 V Battery AUXILIARY BATTERY (12 V) - 2WD")

  2. Close the air shut-off valve (A) and install the plug (B) before installing the SST (09580 - 3D100).

    NOTE:
    • Make sure that the plug (B) is securely installed for accurate setting of the pressure regulator and safety.
    • To avoid damaging the brake reservoir, and to ensure safety, set the pressure regulator (B) to 3 bar.
  3. Connect the air hose (A), and open the air shut-off valve slowly to set the pressure gauge (B) to specified value.

    Pressure:  3 bar

  4. Close the air shut-off valve (A), and then remove the plug (B).

    CAUTION: If the plug (B) is removed while the air shut-off valve (A) is open, injury can occur by the hose.
  5. Remove the brake reservoir cap (A).

  6. Fill the brake fluid to the 'MAX' line.

    Specification:  DOT 4

    Capacity:  As required [About (500 ± 20 cc)]

  7. Install the SST (0K585 - E8100) to the reservoir tank.

  8. Install the SST (09580 - 3D100) to the adapter.

  9. Install the air hose (A) to the SST (09580 - 3D100), and then pressurize to the specified pressure.

    Specification:  3 bar

  10. Open each brake bleed screw (A), drain the brake fluid for about 20 seconds, and then close the bleed screw.

    Tightening torque: 

    13.7 - 19.6 N.m (1.4 - 2.0 kgf.m, 10.1 - 14.5 lb.ft)

    NOTE:
    • Following order: RR → RL → FL → FR
    • If the brake fluid level falls below the 'MIN' line during air bleed, remove the pressurizing equipment and refill with brake fluid. Then reinstall the pressurizing equipment and continue air bleeding.
    • Bleed the air until there is no air in the brake fluid.
    • Be careful not to open the bleed screw too much. air backflow may occur.
    • Do not press the brake pedal without entering IEB air bleeding mode. the IEB may be damaged.

  11. Close the air shut-off valve (A), remove the air hose (B), and open the valve slowly to drain the air.

  12. Remove the air hose (A) from the SST (09580 - 3D100).

  15. Fill the brake fluid to the 'MAX' line.

    Specification:  DOT 4

    Capacity:  As required [About (500 ± 20 cc)]

  16. Connect the battery negative (-) terminal and connect the service interlock connector.

    (Refer to Battery Control System - "Auxiliary 12 V Battery AUXILIARY 12 V BATTERY - 2WD")

  17. Enter the IEB air bleeding mode.
    1. Before entering the IEB air bleeding mode, check the vehicle for ABS/ESC-related DTCs.
      NOTE: If DTCs are present, it is not possible to enter the IEB air bleeding mode.
    2. Turn on the vehicle, align the steering wheel, then set the gear knob to "P".
      NOTE: Press the brake pedal as little as possible for turning on the vehicle.
    3. Press and release the brake pedal 10 times while pushing ESC OFF switch (A).
      NOTE:
      • Make sure to press the brake pedal more than 40 mm (1.57 in.) and release it fully to be pressed less than 10 mm (0.39 in.).
      • IEB may make an operation sound while entering IEB air bleeding mode.
    4. Turn off and on the vehicle, then press the ESC OFF switch (A) once.

      NOTE: Press the brake pedal as little as possible for turning on the vehicle.
    5. If the entry into the air bleeding mode is successful, the 3 lights below are turned on.

    Illuminated: 

    ABS warning light (A), Parking brake/brake warning light (B), ESC OFF warning light (C)

    NOTE:
    • If the warning light does not turn on, go back to the step (1) and retry it again.
    • Entering air bleed mode must be done within 30 seconds.
    • If warning light turns off during air bleeding, stop the air bleeding immediately. and enter the air bleeding mode again.
    • The air bleeding mode is cancelled in each following condition.

    1. IG OFF or shift lever knob in D/R/N
    2. Detecting DTC
    3. Turn off the ESC OFF mode
  18. Fill the brake fluid to the 'MAX' line.

    Specification:  DOT 4

    Capacity:  As required [About (500 ± 20 cc)]

  19. Press the brake pedal hard twice and open the bleed screw (A) while the brake pedal is pressed to drain the brake fluid. Repeat this procedure 10 times on each caliper.

    Tightening torque: 

    13.7 - 19.6 N.m (1.4 - 2.0 kgf.m, 10.1 - 14.5 lb.ft)

    NOTE:
    • Following order: RR → RL → FL → FR
    • If the brake fluid level falls below the 'MIN' line during air bleed, refill with brake fluid. then continue the air bleeding.
    • Bleed the air until there is no air in the brake fluid.
    • Be careful not to open the bleed screw too much, air backflow may occur.

  20. Turn off the vehicle to exit the IEB air bleeding mode and turn on the vehicle again to check for warning lights in the cluster.
    NOTE: If the warning light illuminates, inspect the related system.
  21. Fill the brake fluid to the 'MAX' line.

    Specification:  DOT 4

    Capacity:  As required [About (500 ± 20 cc)]

  22. Install the brake reservoir cap (A).

  23. If the air is still in the brake fluid, re-try the above procedures.
