Removal

WARNING:
  • When working on the high voltage system, the work should be performed by technicians who have completed the relevant training. A lack of understanding of the high voltage system can lead to serious accidents due to electric shock or short circuit.
  • When working on the high voltage system or related components, be sure to observe and be aware of the "Safety Precautions, Cautions and Warnings". If not, it may cause serious accidents due to electric shock or short circuit.
  • When working on the high voltage system, make sure to check the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and high voltage shut-off procedure.
CAUTION:
  • When prying with a flat-tip screwdriver or use a prying trim tool, wrap it with protective tape, and apply protective tape around the related parts, to prevent damage.
  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.

    (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "AUXILIARY BATTERY ")

  2. Recover the refrigerant with a recovery/recycling/charging station.
  3. When the engine is cool, drain the engine coolant from the radiator.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "COOLANT ")

  4. Remove the front wiper motor.

    (Refer to Body Electrical System - "WIPER MOTOR ")

  5. Separate the expansion valve (A) from the evaporator after removing the mounting bolt.

    Tightening torque: 

    8.8 - 13.7 N.m (0.9 - 1.4 kgf.m, 6.5 - 10.1 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • Plug or cap the lines immediately after disconnecting them to avoid moisture and dust contamination.
    • When installing, replace with a new O-ring.
  6. Separate the heater hose (A) and (B) from heater core.

    CAUTION:
    • Engine coolant will run out when the hoses are disconnected; drain it into a clean drip pan. Be sure not to let coolant spill on electrical parts or painted surfaces. If any coolant spills, rinse it off immediately.
  7. Remove the engine control module (ECM).

    (Refer to Engine Control/Fuel System - "ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) ")

  8. Separate the reservoir tank (A) by removing the mounting bolt and nut.

  9. Remove the cowl cross bar assembly mounting bolts (A).

  10. Remove the front seat assembly.

    (Refer to Body - "FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY ")

  11. Remove the floor console assembly.

    (Refer to Body - "FLOOR CONSOLE ASSEMBLY ")

  12. Remove the crash pad center panel.

    (Refer to Body - "CRASH PAD CENTER PANEL ")

  13. Remove the front pillar trim.

    (Refer to Body - "FRONT PILLAR TRIM ")

  14. Remove the cowl side trim.

    (Refer to Body - "COWL SIDE TRIM ")

  15. Remove the steering column shroud lower panel.

    (Refer to Body - "STEERING COLUMN SHROUD PANEL ")

  16. Remove the steering wheel.

    (Refer to Steering System - "STEERING WHEEL ")

  17. Remove the multifunction switch.

    (Refer to Body Electrical System - "MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH ")

  18. Drop down the steering column by removing the front mounting nut or thought bolt after disconnecting the MDPS connector.

    (Refer to Steering System - "MDPS SYSTEM ")

  19. Remove the accelerator mounting cap (A).

  20. Disconnect the accelerator connector (A).

  21. Remove the accelerator (A) after removing the mounting bolt and nut.

  22. Separate the floor carpet (A) and roll towards back of vehicle.

  23. Remove the Drive, Passenger rear heating ducts (A) by removing the mounting nuts.

  24. Disconnect the airbag system control module (SRSCM) connector (A).

  25. Disconnect the connectors (A) after removing the front pillar mounting clips.

  26. Disconnect the inside junction box connectors (A).

  27. Disconnect the multi box connectors (A).

  28. Separate the drain hose (A).

  29. Remove the lower mounting bolt of the heater & blower unit.

    Tightening torque: 

    3.9 - 5.9 N.m (0.4 - 0.6 kgf.m, 2.8 - 4.3 lb-ft, 34.7 - 52.0 lb-in)

  30. Remove the cowl cross bar side mounting bolts after removing the plug hole.

  31. Remove the crash pad and heater & blower unit assembly (A) together from the body after removing the mounting bolts and nuts.

  32. Remove the heater control unit.

    (Refer to Heating, Ventilation And Air Conditioning - "HEATER CONTROL UNIT ")

  33. Remove the integrated body control (IBU) unit.

    (Refer to Body Electrical System - "INTEGRATED BODY CONTROL UNIT (IBU) (PHEV) ")

  34. Remove the surround view monitor (SVM) unit.

    (Refer to Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) - "SURROUND VIEW MONITOR (SVM) ")

  35. Remove the parking collision - avoidance assist (PCA) unit.

    (Refer to Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) - "PARKING COLLISION-AVOIDANCE ASSIST (PCA) (PHEV) ")

  36. Remove the parking collision - Avoidance Assist (PCA) unit bracket (A) after removing the mounting nut and screw.

  37. Disconnect the heater & blower unit connectors and wiring.

    1. Disconnect the PTC heater connector (A) after pushing the lock pin.

    2. Disconnect the temperature control actuator (A), mode control actuator (B) connector.

    1. Disconnect the mode control actuator connector (A).

  38. Remove the heater & blower unit (A) from the crash pad after removing the mounting nuts and bolts.
