When KDS Is Unavailable, Conduct Coolant Change And Air Bleeding Following The Below Procedure.

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2024 Kia Sorento. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Check that the engine and radiator has cooled down sufficiently.
  2. Remove the reservoir tank cap (A).

  3. Remove the engine room under cover.

(Refer to Engine and Transaxle Assembly - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  4. Drain engine coolant by removing the drain plug (A).

  5. After coolant drain is completed, retighten the drain plug.
  6. Drain coolant in the reservoir tank and then clean the reservoir tank.
  7. Disconnect the integrated thermal management module (ITM) connector (A).

    NOTE:
    • When disconnecting the integrated flow control valve (ITM) connector, double check that the engine is running and all power is off.
    • Make sure that static electricity and other voltages are not applied to the built-in flow control valve (ITM).
    • Keep magnetic materials such as magnets away from the built-in flow control valve (ITM).
  8. Refill the antifreeze and water mixture (45-60%) through the reservoir tank inlet and fit the pressure cap.

    Coolant capacity:

    Approx. 7.9 L (8.35 U.S.gal., 6.95 U.S.qt., 2.09 Imp.qt.)

    NOTE:
    • Push the upper/lower hoses on the radiator so that the air can get out easily.
    • Use only antifreeze/coolant.
    • To prevent corrosion, the concentration of the coolant shall be kept at a minimum of 45 to 60%. If the concentration of the coolant is between 45 and 60%, there may be a risk of corrosion or freezing.
    • Coolant concentrations greater than 60% will impair cooling efficiency and are not recommended.
    • Do not mix different brands of antifreeze/coolants.
    • Do not use the additional anti-rust additives.
  9. Start up the engine
  10. Fill the reservoir tank with coolant.
NOTE: Check and fill the reservoir tank cooling water level for 20 minutes after the engine has started.
  11. Disconnect the integrated thermal management module (ITM) connector (A).

  12. Perform engine "ON/OFF" procedure below and that check that there is no DTCs.
    1. Start the engine, run for 5 seconds, then turn OFF the engine.
    2. Repeat this procedure three times.
    3. Check that the engine warning light goes OFF when the engine starts for the fourth time.
  13. Operate until the coolant circulates sufficiently.
  14. After checking the amount of cooling water in the reservoir tank, replenish the cooling water to the "F" mark.
  15. Install the engine room under cover.
