Repair Procedures: Removal

CAUTION:
  • Use fender cover to avoid damaging painted suffices.
  • To avoid damage, disconnect the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
NOTE: Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection.
WARNING: Since the high voltage (DC 236V) in the hybrid power system may cause personal injury or vehicle damage, be sure to observe the "Cautions for Hybrid Power System - see GENERAL SAFETY INFORMATION & CAUTION ". (Generally means "safety, attention and warning")
  1. Disconnect the battery negative terminal.

    (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "AUXILIARY BATTERY ")

  2. Shut off the high voltage circuit.

    (Refer to General Information - "HIGH VOLTAGE SHUT-OFF PROCEDURES ")

  3. Remove the engine cover.

    (Refer to Engine and Transaxle Assembly - "ENGINE COVER ")

  4. Remove the air cleaner assembly.

    (Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - AIR CLEANER ")

  5. Remove the engine room under cover.

    (Refer to Engine and Transaxle Assembly - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  6. Drain the engine coolant.

    (Refer to cooling System - "COOLANT ")

  7. Drain the inverter coolant

    (Refer to Hybrid Motor System - "COOLANT ")

  8. Recover the refrigerant and then remove the high pressure pipe and low pressure pipe.

    (Refer to Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning - "ELECTRIC A/C COMPRESSOR ")

  9. Remove the RCV hose and pipe (A).

  10. Remove the hybrid power control unit (HPCU).

    (Refer to Hybrid Control System - "HYBRID POWER CONTROL UNIT (HPCU) ")

  11. Disconnect the radiator upper hose (A).

  12. Disconnect the intercooler inlet hose (A).

    Tightening torque  :

    4.5 - 6.7 N.m (0.5 - 0.7 kgf.m, 3.6 - 5.0 lb.ft, 43.4 - 60.6 lb.in)

  13. Disconnect the intercooler outlet pipe (A).

  14. Disconnect the radiator lower hose (A).

  15. Disconnect the inverter radiator inlet hose (A).

  16. Disconnect the engine wiring.
    1. Disconnect the fuse box connectors (A).
    2. Disconnect the ground cable (B).
    3. Disconnect the main wiring (C).

  17. Disconnect the heater hose (A).

  18. Disconnect the reservoir tank hose (A).

  19. Remove the front muffler.

    (Refer to Intake And Exhaust System - "MUFFLER ")

  20. Separator propeller shaft from the automatic transmission.

    (Refer to Driveshaft And Axle - "PROPELLER SHAFT ")

  21. Separator the universal joint from the shaft joint.

    (Refer to Suspension System - "Sub Frame REMOVAL ")

  22. Remove the roll rod bracket (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    Bolt (B):

    49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb.ft)

    Bolt (C):

    107.9 - 127.5 N.m (11.0 - 13.0 kgf.m, 79.6 - 94.0 lb.ft)

  23. Remove the roll rod mounting support bracket (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    49.0 - 68.6 N.m (5.0 - 7.0 kgf.m, 36.2 - 50.6 lb.ft)

  24. Remove the sub frame.

    (Refer to Suspension System- "Sub Frame REMOVAL ")

  25. Support the engine and transaxle assembly with a floor jack.
  26. Remove the engine mounting support bracket (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    88.3 - 107.9 N.m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 - 79.6 lb.ft)

  27. Remove the LH front wheel guard

    (Refer to Body (Interior and Exterior) - "FRONT WHEEL GUARD ")

  28. Remove the transaxle support bracket mounting bolts

    Tightening torque:

    107.9 - 127.5 N.m (11.0 - 13.0 kgf.m, 79.6 - 94.0 lb.ft)

  29. Remove the engine and transaxle assembly by lifting vehicle (A).

NOTE:
  • Before removing the engine and transaxle assembly, make sure hose and wire connectors are disconnected
  • When removing the engine and transaxle assembly, by careful not to damage any surrounding par or body components
