Refilling And Bleeding
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2024 Kia Sorento. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING:
Never remove the cap when the engine is hot. Serious scalding could be caused by hot fluid under high pressure escaping from the reservoir.
NOTE:
- Low conductivity coolant must be replaced every 3 years.
- Be careful not to spill the coolant water on the electric devices when changing the coolant.
- Make sure to use a genuine coolant for replacement or replenishment.
- Do not mix coolant types of different brands.
- Check the color of the coolant in the pressure cap label and reservoir tank when replacing or replacing the coolant. For low-conductivity coolant, be sure to use a Kia's genuine low-conductivity coolant.
- The low-conductivity coolant pressure cap should only be removed by a mechanic.
- Low-conductivity coolant should not be diluted with water.
* Do not mix with water.
- Do not add anti-rust additives.
- Remove the reservoir cap to help drain the coolant faster.
- Remove the under cover.
(Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")
- Remove the drain plug (A), allow the coolant to drain out and then reinstall the drain plug.
- After draining coolant in the reservoir tank, clean the tank.
- Fill the radiator with water through the inverter reservoir cap and tighten the cap.
Information
To most effectively bleed the air, pour the water slowly and press on the upper/lower radiator hoses.
- Switch "On" ignition and then perform the ELECTRIC WATER PUMP (EWP)
actuation using KDS.
Information
Refer to the KDS screen for operating conditions and details.
- Repeat steps 1 to 6 until the drained water runs clear.
- Fill coolant of Kia Motors for electric vehicles slowly through the reservoir cap. At this time, press the upper/lower hose of the radiator so that air can be easily discharged.NOTE:
- Do not add additional rust inhibitors.
- Perform the EWP actuation using KDS.
(Actuation Test → Battery EWP Operation Mode for Degassing and Circulation)
Information
Refer to the KDS screen for operating conditions and details.
- When the EWP operates and coolant circulates, refill coolant so that the coolant level is kept between "MAX" and "MIN" level.NOTE: If the EWP operates without a sufficient amount of coolant for approximately 5 seconds, the protect function will activate to stop the EWP for about 15 seconds. If a sufficient amount of coolant is added, EWP will start operating automatically.
- When the operational sound volume of the EWP becomes small and when no air bubbles can be seen in the reservoir tank, bleeding of the coolant system is completed. (It would take about 3 - 5 minutes.)
- After air bleeding is completed, stop the EWP, add coolant to the "MAX" level, and install the reservoir cap.
