A fuel filler cap features a ratcheting mechanism to reduce incorrect installation and seal the fuel system from leaks. After the gasket on the fuel filler cap and the filler neck flange contact each other, the ratchet produces a loud clicking noise indicating that the fuel cap has been properly installed and the fuel system is sealed.
