Removal And Installation

Information 

• When removing with a flat-tip screwdriver or remover, wrap protective tape around the tools to prevent damage to components.
• Use a plastic panel removal tool to remove interior trim pieces without damaging the surface.
• Take care not to bend or scratch the trim and panels.

1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
2. Recover the refrigerant with a recovery/recycling/charging station.
3. When the engine is cool, drain the engine coolant from the radiator.

   G 1.6 T-GDI GAMMA  (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "COOLANT ")

   G 2.0 MPI NU  (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "COOLANT ")

4. Remove the cowl top cover.

   (Refer to "COWL TOP COVER ")

5. Remove both sides of front seat assembly.

   (Refer to Front Seat - "FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY ")

6. Remove the main crash pad assembly.

   (Refer to Crash Pad - "MAIN CRASH PAD ASSEMBLY ")

7. Disconnect the steering column connectors.

   (Refer to "MDPS ASSEMBLY ").

8. Loosen the mounting nuts and through bolts in the frontal area and lower the steering column.

   (Refer to "MDPS ASSEMBLY ").

9. Remove the wiper motor & linkage assembly.

   (Refer to Body Electrical System - "WIPER MOTOR ")

10. Remove the bolts and the expansion valve (A) from the evaporator core.

    Tightening torque: 

    8.8 - 13.7 N.m (0.9 - 1.4 kgf-m, 6.5 - 10.1 lb.ft)

    NOTE:

    • Plug or cap the lines immediately after disconnecting them to avoid moisture and dust contamination.
    • When installing, replace with a new O-ring.
11. Disconnect the heater hoses (A) from the heater unit.

    CAUTION: Engine coolant will run out when the hoses are disconnected; drain it into a clean drip pan. Be sure not to let coolant spill on electrical parts or painted surfaces. If any coolant spills, rinse it off immediately.
12. Loosen the engine room cowl cross bar assembly mounting bolts.

    Tightening torque: 

    21.6 - 29.4 N.m (2.2 - 3.0 Kgf.m, 15.9 - 21.7 lb.ft)

13. Remove the rear air duct (A).

14. Separate the floor carpet (A) to obtain space for removing the rear heating duct.

16. Disconnect the airbag control module (SRSCM) connector (A) including airbag control ground mounting.

17. Disconnect the connector (A) and the mounting wiring fasteners in the front pillar.

18. Disconnect the passenger compartment junction box connectors (A).

19. Disconnect the multi box connectors (A).

20. Remove the drain hose (A).

21. After loosening the bolts, remove the cowl cross bar and heater & blower unit assembly (A) together.

    Tightening torque: 

    16.7 - 23.5 N.m (1.7 - 2.4 Kgf.m, 12.3 - 17.4 lb.ft)

22. Disconnect the connector, then remove the IBU (A) after loosening the nuts.

23. Disconnect the heater & blower unit connectors.

    1. Separate the mode control actuator (A) and remove the wiring mounting clips.

    1. Separate the blower motor connector (A) and remove the wiring mounting clip.

24. Disconnect the connectors then remove the IBU (A) after loosening the bolt and nuts.

25. Loosen the mounting nuts and bolts, remove the heater & blower unit (A) from the cowl cross bar.

26. Remove the main wiring harness from the cowl cross bar.

27. To install, reinstall in reverse order of removal procedure.

    Information 

    • Make sure the crash pad fits onto the guide pins correctly.
    • Before tightening the bolts, make sure the crash pad wire harnesses are not pinched.
    • Make sure the connectors are plugged in properly, and the antenna lead is connected properly.
    • Enter the anti-theft code for the radio, then enter the customer's radio station presets.
    • Make sure that each of the assembly components operates properly.
    • Replace any damaged clips (or pin-type retainers).
