DTC B1375-00: Passenger Airbag Active Vent Resistance Circuit To Ground: General Description

* Configuration and working principle of passenger airbag active vent

The Passenger Air bag module (PAB) is located in the passenger crash pad.

The PAB contains 2 firing squibs of airbag and 1 firing squib of active vent.

Depending on crash speed or the tightening of seat belt, timing of both firing squibs on airbag and 1 firing squib on active vent is determined.

In case of vehicle collision, the firing squib on active vent makes airbag deploy and then consecutively leaks gases in airbag through vents.

At first, the active vent sets a rapid deployment of airbag by keeping pressure. and then it emits the gases.

The working principle of tether cutter: When electrical signal is received, tether cutter cuts a strap which is been attached to active vent in order to open a hole on airbag.

* The working range of active vent

1. If occupant in passenger seat is buckled, active vent is disposed in the end of crash event regardless of crash severity.
2. If occupant is buckled up and crash that is severe enough to require 2nd stage of passenger airbag deployment, active vent is activated to optimize occupant protection.
3. Low-speed + belt buckled: Inflator of primary fire + 2nd stage and active vent disposal in the end of crash event.
