Repair Procedures: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
CAUTION:
  • Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
  • To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
NOTE:
  • Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection.
  • For release the fuel system pressure before remove the engine assembly, start the engine without fuel pump relay. And then turn off the ignition switch after engine stops.
  1. Disconnect the "negative" battery cable.
  2. Remove the air conditioning refrigerant.
  3. Remove the engine room under cover.

    (Refer to Engine and Transaxle Assembly - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  4. Drain the coolant.

    (Refer to Cooling System - COOLANT ")

  5. Remove the front muffler.

    (Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "MUFFLER ")

  6. Remove the dust cover (A).

  7. Remove the torque converter mounting bolts (A) by rotating the crankshaft.

    Tightening torque: 

    45.1 - 52.0 N.m (4.6 - 5.3 kgf.m, 33.3 - 38.3 lb.ft)

  8. Loosen the transaxle lower mounting bolts (A, B).

    Tightening torque: 

    (A) 42.2 - 48.1 N.m (4.3 - 4.9 kgf.m, 31.1 - 35.4 lb.ft)

    (B) 42.2 - 54.0 N.m (4.3 - 5.5 kgf.m, 31.1 - 39.8 lb.ft)

  9. Remove the inner shaft bracket bolts (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb.ft)

  10. Remove the air duct (A).

  11. Remove the front bumper assembly.

    (Refer to "FRONT BUMPER COVER ")

  12. Remove the RH and LH head lamps.

    (Refer to "HEADLAMPS ")

  13. Remove the battery and battery tray.

    (Refer to "BATTERY ")

  14. Disconnect the ATF cooler hose (A).

  15. Disconnect the recirculation valve connector (A) and the vacuum hose (B).

  16. Remove the intercooler inlet hose & pipe assembly (A).

    Tightening torque 

    Hose clamp bolt:

    4.9 - 6.9 N.m (0.5 - 0.7 kgf.m, 3.6 - 5.1 lb.ft)

    Pipe mounting bolt:

    14.7 - 19.6 N.m (1.5 - 2.0 kgf.m, 10.8 - 14.5 lb.ft)

    NOTE: Align the marks of the intercooler pipes/hoses and assembling parts.
  17. Disconnect the boost pressure sensor connector (A).

  18. Remove the intercooler outlet pipe & hose assembly (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    4.9 - 6.9 N.m (0.5 - 0.7 kgf.m, 3.6 - 5.1 lb.ft)

  19. Disconnect the radiator upper hose (A) and lower hose (B).

  20. Remove the hood latch cable (A).

  21. Disconnect the A/C discharge line (A) and liquid line (B).

  22. Remove the RH and LH fender mounting bolt (A).

  23. Disconnect the main wiring harness connectors and fasteners from the front end module (FEM) assembly.
  24. Remove the front end module (FEM) assembly bolts (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    21.6 - 26.5 N.m (2.2 - 2.7 kgf.m, 15.9 - 19.5 lb-ft)

    NOTE: Marking is necessary before removing FEM in order to install the FEM in the right place as it was.
  25. Remove the front end module (FEM) assembly (A).

  26. Remove the air cleaner assembly.

    (Refer to Intake And Exhaust System - "AIR CLEANER ")

  27. Disconnect the wiring connectors and harness clamps and remove the connector brackets around the engine.
  28. Disconnect the heater hoses (A).

  29. Disconnect the intensifier hose (A) and the vacuum hose (B).

  30. Disconnect the fuel hose (A) and purge control solenoid valve (PCSV) hose (B).

  31. Remove the drive belt.

    (Refer to DRIVE BELT )

  32. Remove the alternator.

    (Refrt to ALTERNATOR )

  33. Remove the A/C compressor.

    (Refer to COMPRESSOR )

  34. Remove the drive belt tensioner.

    (Refer to DRIVE BELT TENSIONER )

  35. Remove the crankshaft damper pulley.

    (Refer to CRANKSHAFT DAMPER PULLEY )

  36. Securely support the transaxle using a jack, then install the hoist to the engine hanger.

  37. Disconnect the ground cable (A) and then remove the engine mounting support bracket (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    Ground cable: 10.8 - 13.7 N.m (1.1 - 1.4 kgf.m, 8.0 - 10.1 lb-ft)

    Support bracket: 88.3 - 107.9 N.m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 - 79.6 lb-ft)

    NOTE: Once the self lock nut is loosened, it loses the clamping force. For this reason, always use a new nut to tighten with specified force.
  38. Remove the automatic transaxle upper mounting bolts (A) and the starter mounting bolts (B).

  39. Separate the engine and transaxle by using a pry bar.

  40. Remove the engine assembly by pulling it toward the front of the vehicle.

    NOTE: When pulling the engine, be careful not to touch the surrounding parts. Damage to the engine or parts may occur.
