Repair Procedures: Removal
- Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
- To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
- Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection.
- For release the fuel system pressure before remove the engine assembly, start the engine without fuel pump relay. And then turn off the ignition switch after engine stops.
- Disconnect the "negative" battery cable.
- Remove the air conditioning refrigerant.
- Remove the engine room under cover.

- Drain the coolant.
(Refer to Cooling System - COOLANT ")
- Remove the front muffler.
(Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "MUFFLER ")
- Remove the dust cover (A).
- Remove the torque converter mounting bolts (A) by rotating the crankshaft.
Tightening torque:
45.1 - 52.0 N.m (4.6 - 5.3 kgf.m, 33.3 - 38.3 lb.ft)
- Loosen the transaxle lower mounting bolts (A, B).
Tightening torque:
(A) 42.2 - 48.1 N.m (4.3 - 4.9 kgf.m, 31.1 - 35.4 lb.ft)
(B) 42.2 - 54.0 N.m (4.3 - 5.5 kgf.m, 31.1 - 39.8 lb.ft)
- Remove the inner shaft bracket bolts (A).
Tightening torque:
49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb.ft)
- Remove the air duct (A).
- Remove the front bumper assembly.
(Refer to "FRONT BUMPER COVER ")
- Remove the RH and LH head lamps.
(Refer to "HEADLAMPS ")
- Remove the battery and battery tray.
(Refer to "BATTERY ")
- Disconnect the ATF cooler hose (A).
- Disconnect the recirculation valve connector (A) and the vacuum hose (B).
- Remove the intercooler inlet hose & pipe assembly (A).
Tightening torque
Hose clamp bolt:
4.9 - 6.9 N.m (0.5 - 0.7 kgf.m, 3.6 - 5.1 lb.ft)
Pipe mounting bolt:
14.7 - 19.6 N.m (1.5 - 2.0 kgf.m, 10.8 - 14.5 lb.ft)
NOTE: Align the marks of the intercooler pipes/hoses and assembling parts. - Disconnect the boost pressure sensor connector (A).
- Remove the intercooler outlet pipe & hose assembly (A).
Tightening torque:
4.9 - 6.9 N.m (0.5 - 0.7 kgf.m, 3.6 - 5.1 lb.ft)
- Disconnect the radiator upper hose (A) and lower hose (B).
- Remove the hood latch cable (A).
- Disconnect the A/C discharge line (A) and liquid line (B).
- Remove the RH and LH fender mounting bolt (A).
- Disconnect the main wiring harness connectors and fasteners from the front end module (FEM) assembly.
- Remove the front end module (FEM) assembly bolts (A).
Tightening torque:
21.6 - 26.5 N.m (2.2 - 2.7 kgf.m, 15.9 - 19.5 lb-ft)
NOTE: Marking is necessary before removing FEM in order to install the FEM in the right place as it was. - Remove the front end module (FEM) assembly (A).
- Remove the air cleaner assembly.
(Refer to Intake And Exhaust System - "AIR CLEANER ")
- Disconnect the wiring connectors and harness clamps and remove the connector brackets around the engine.
- Disconnect the heater hoses (A).
- Disconnect the intensifier hose (A) and the vacuum hose (B).
- Disconnect the fuel hose (A) and purge control solenoid valve (PCSV) hose (B).
- Remove the drive belt.
(Refer to DRIVE BELT )
- Remove the alternator.
(Refrt to ALTERNATOR )
- Remove the A/C compressor.
(Refer to COMPRESSOR )
- Remove the drive belt tensioner.
(Refer to DRIVE BELT TENSIONER )
- Remove the crankshaft damper pulley.
(Refer to CRANKSHAFT DAMPER PULLEY )
- Securely support the transaxle using a jack, then install the hoist to the engine hanger.
- Disconnect the ground cable (A) and then remove the engine mounting support bracket (B).
Tightening torque:
Ground cable: 10.8 - 13.7 N.m (1.1 - 1.4 kgf.m, 8.0 - 10.1 lb-ft)
Support bracket: 88.3 - 107.9 N.m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 - 79.6 lb-ft)
NOTE: Once the self lock nut is loosened, it loses the clamping force. For this reason, always use a new nut to tighten with specified force. - Remove the automatic transaxle upper mounting bolts (A) and the starter mounting bolts (B).
- Separate the engine and transaxle by using a pry bar.
- Remove the engine assembly by pulling it toward the front of the vehicle.NOTE: When pulling the engine, be careful not to touch the surrounding parts. Damage to the engine or parts may occur.
