Repair Procedures: Removal
- Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
- To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
- Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection.
- For release the fuel system pressure before remove the engine assembly, start the engine without fuel pump relay. And then turn off the ignition switch after engine stops.
- Disconnect the "negative" battery cable.
- Remove the air conditioning refrigerant.
- Remove the engine room under cover.
(Refer to Engine and Transaxle Assembly - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")
- Drain the coolant.
(Refer to Cooling System - COOLANT ")
- Remove the front muffler.
(Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "MUFFLER AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER ")
- Remove the air duct (A).
- Remove the front bumper assembly.
(Refer to "FRONT BUMPER COVER ")
- Remove the RH and LH head lamps.
(Refer to "HEADLAMPS ")
- Remove the battery and battery tray.
(Refer to "BATTERY ")
- Disconnect the ATF cooler hose (A).
- Disconnect the radiator upper hose (A) and lower hose (B).
- Remove the hood latch cable (A).
- Disconnect the A/C discharge line (A) and liquid line (B).
- Remove the RH and LH fender mounting bolt (A).
- Disconnect the main wiring harness connectors and fasteners from the front end module (FEM) assembly.
- Remove the front end module (FEM) assembly bolts (A).
Tightening torque:
21.6 - 26.5 N.m (2.2 - 2.7 kgf.m, 15.9 - 19.5 lb-ft)
NOTE: Marking is necessary before removing FEM in order to install the FEM in the right place as it was. - Remove the front end module (FEM) assembly (A).
- Remove the air cleaner assembly.
(Refer to Intake And Exhaust System - "AIR CLEANER ")
- Disconnect the ground cable (A).
- Disconnect the engine control module (ECM) connectors (A).
- Remove the main wiring protector (B).
Tightening torque:
7.8 - 11.8 N.m (0.8 - 1.2 kgf.m, 5.7 - 8.6 lb.ft)
- Disconnect the fuse box main wiring connector (A).
- Disconnect the front connector (A).
- Disconnect the fuse box wiring cable (A).
- Remove the battery wiring protector (B).
Tightening torque:
7.8 - 11.8 N.m (0.8 - 1.2 kgf.m, 5.7 - 8.6 lb.ft)
- Remove the transaxle wire harness connectors and control cable from the transaxle.
(Refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE SYSTEM - 2.4L (EXCEPT HEV) )
- Disconnect the heater hoses (A).
- Disconnect the fuel hose (A) and purge control solenoid valve (PCSV) hose (B).
- Remove the front drive shaft.
(Refer to FRONT DRIVESHAFT )
- Remove the roll rod bracket (A).
Tightening torque:
Bolts (B):
107.9 - 127.5 N.m (11.0 - 13.0 kgf.m, 79.6 - 94.0 lb.ft)
Bolts (C):
49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb.ft)
NOTE: Always use a new bolt (B), which is special bolt coated with bond. - Remove the roll rod mounting support bracket (A).
Tightening torque:
49.0 - 68.6 N.m (5.0 - 7.0 kgf.m, 36.2 - 50.6 lb.ft)
- Support the engine and transaxle assembly with a lift table.
- Disconnect the ground cable (A) and then remove the engine mounting support bracket (B).
Tightening torque:
Ground cable: 10.8 - 13.7 N.m (1.1 - 1.4 kgf.m, 8.0 - 10.1 lb-ft)
Support bracket: 88.3 - 107.9 N.m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 - 79.6 lb-ft)
NOTE: Once the self lock nut is loosened, it loses the clamping force. For this reason, always use a new nut to tighten with specified force. - Remove the transaxle mounting side panel packing (A).
- Remove the transaxle mounting bolts (A).
Tightening torque:
107.9 - 127.5 N.m (11.0 - 13.0 kgf.m, 79.6 - 94.0 lb-ft)
- Remove the transaxle support bracket (A).
Tightening torque:
58.9 - 78.5 N.m (6.0 - 8.0 kgf.m, 43.4 - 57.9 lb-ft)
- Disconnect the ground cable (A).
- Remove the engine and transaxle assembly by pulling it toward the front of the vehicle.NOTE: When pulling the engine, be careful not to touch surrounding parts, damage to the engine or parts may occur.
