Component Inspection

■ Check Alternator performance 

  1. Ignition "OFF"
  2. Connect CH A probe to COM signal terminal (Pin No. 1) of Alternator connector and CH B probe to FR signal terminal (Pin No. 3) of Alternator connector.
  3. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
  4. Measure signal waveform of COM and FR.

    Specification:  Refer to signal waveform & data below.

    COM → Duty (+) Approx. 34%

    Duty (-) Approx. 66%,

    FR → Duty (+) Approx. 58%

    Duty (-) Approx. 42%,

    COM → Duty (+) Approx. 34%

    Duty (-) Approx. 66%,

    FR → Duty (+) Approx. 96%

    Duty (-) Approx. 4%,

    Duty (+) from FR terminal is increased if electrical loads are ON (Head Lamp and Defrost are ON) PCM controls generation of alternator with duty from FR terminal when electrical Loads turn on.

■ Confirm Part Inspection 

  1. Does the Alternator operate properly? (Check variation)

    YES 

    NO 

    • Carefully re-do this troubleshooting guide steps.
    • If problem still occurs, replace Alternator and then go to "VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR " procedure.
