DTC56: Driver Module Open

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Disconnect Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) connector and upper clockspring connector. Check continuity of Yellow/Red wire between ACU connector terminal No. 11 and upper clockspring connector terminal No. 2. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity does exist, go to step  4.
  2. Disconnect lower clockspring connector. Check continuity of Yellow/Red wire between terminal No. 2 of harness connector and terminal No. 11 of ACU connector. If continuity does not exist, replace harness between lower clockspring connector and ACU. If continuity exists, go to next step.
  3. Check continuity of Yellow/Red wire between terminal No. 2 of upper clockspring connector and terminal No. 2 of lower clockspring connector. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace clockspring. See CLOCKSPRING  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  4. Reconnect lower clockspring connector. Check continuity of Red wire between ACU connector terminal No. 10 and terminal No. 3 of upper clockspring connector. If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, replace driver-side air bag module. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  5. Disconnect lower clockspring connector. Check continuity of Red wirer between ACU terminal No. 10 and terminal No. 3 of lower clockspring connector. If continuity does not exist, replace wire harness between ACU and lower clockspring connector. If continuity exists, go to next step.
  6. Check continuity of Red wire between terminal No. 2 of upper clockspring connector and terminal No. 3 of lower clockspring connector. If continuity does not exist, replace clockspring. See CLOCKSPRING  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If continuity exists, replace driver-side air bag module. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
