DTC54: Driver Module Short To Battery

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Disconnect Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) connector. Disconnect lower clockspring connector. Measure voltage between ground and ACU connector terminals No. 10 (Red wire) and/or No. 11 (Yellow/Red wire). See Figure. If battery voltage exists, replace wire harness between ACU and lower clockspring connector. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect upper clockspring connector. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 2 (Yellow/Red wire) and/or terminal No. 3 (Red wire) of clockspring connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If battery voltage exists, replace clockspring. See CLOCKSPRING  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If battery voltage does not exist, replace driver-side air bag module. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
