DTC 53: Driver Module Short To Ground

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Disconnect Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) connector and lower clockspring connector. Measure continuity between ground and terminals No. 10 (Red wire) and/or No. 11 (Yellow/Red wire) of ACU connector. See Figure. If continuity exists, replace harness between ACU and clockspring connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect upper clockspring connector. Check for continuity between ground and clockspring connector terminals No. 2 (Yellow/Red wire) and/or No. 3 (Red wire). If continuity exists, replace clockspring. If continuity does not exist, replace driver-side air bag module.
