DTC 36: Warning Light Open

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Access and disconnect Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) connector. Access instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check continuity of Yellow wire between ACU connector terminal No. 7 and instrument cluster connector terminal B11. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If no continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity exists, replace ACU. See AIR BAG CONTROL UNIT (ACU)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Check continuity of Yellow wire between terminals 1C and B11 of instrument cluster connector. If continuity does not exist, inspect and repair or replace AIR BAG warning light bulb, socket or printed circuit board in instrument cluster. If continuity exists, replace wire harness between instrument cluster and harness connector, located in harness between ACU connector and instrument cluster. Go to next step.
  3. Check continuity of Yellow wire between ACU connector terminal No. 7 and in-line connector terminal, located in harness between ACU connector and instrument cluster. If continuity exists, replace harness between ACU and harness connector. If continuity does not exist, replace wire between in-line connector and instrument cluster.
