Front Disc Brake Pads & Caliper: Removal

CAUTION: Do not use a screwdriver or similar tool to pry piston from rotor.

NOTE: Do not discard shims found behind brake pads.
1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel and tire assembly. Remove 2 bolts and remove caliper. See Fig 1 . Remove brake pads and guide plate. Measure brake pad lining thickness and compare with specification. See DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATION  . Replace pads if lining thickness is less than specification. Go to next step.
2. Prepare to catch any brake fluid. Using flare nut wrench, disconnect brake hose. Remove 2 bolts and supporting plate. Measure rotor thickness in 4 places. Compare rotor thickness to specification. See DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATION  . Replace rotor if thickness is less than specification. To remove rotor, see FRONT BRAKE ROTOR  .
