Removal (Except Optima)

NOTE: Use a suitable container or rags to collect fluid when disconnecting pressure and return lines.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support front of vehicle. Remove front wheels. Remove engine undercover. Remove cotter pins and nuts from tie rod ends. Using puller, separate tie rod ends from steering knuckles.
  2. Loosen 2 bracket bolts and nuts. Remove bracket fixed to pipes and gear box. On Rio models, remove catalytic converter.
NOTE: Temporarily replace nuts so screw thread does not become damaged.
  3. Disconnect high pressure and return line connections from steering rack. Remove 2 "U" joint pinch bolts and intermediate shaft pinch bolt. Remove 4 steering column nuts and sealing cover.
  4. Remove change control rod and extension bar from transaxle. Remove steering rack from right side of vehicle. If necessary, replace rack and linkage as a unit. DO NOT disassemble.
