- Remove engine coolant temperature sensor. Place sensor into a heated container of water. Use ohmmeter to measure resistance from engine coolant temperature sensor terminal to sensor body. Resistance should be 180-200 ohms at 122°F (50°C). If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified replace sensor.
- Reinstall engine coolant temperature sensor. Remove instrument cluster and disconnect instrument cluster 14-pin connector "A". Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster 14-pin connector "A" terminal No. 2 (Brown/Yellow wire). If resistance does not exist, repair short to ground in Brown/Yellow wire between instrument cluster 14-pin harness connector "A" and engine coolant temperature sensor. If resistance is as specified in step 1) , go to next step. If resistance is not as specified in previous step, check for short or open in Brown/Yellow wire.
- Measure resistance between Yellow wire, Black wire and Brown/Yellow wire at instrument cluster. If resistance exists, system is okay. If resistance does not exist, replace engine coolant temperature gauge.
