DTC56: Driver Module Open

NOTE: Refer to wiring diagram and Air Bag Diagnostic Unit (ADU) connector identification when diagnosing faults. See Figure & Figure .
  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Disconnect Air Bag Diagnostic Unit (ADU) connector and clockspring-to-driver air bag connector. Check for continuity between ADU connector terminal No. 11 (Yellow-Red wire) and clockspring connector terminal No. 2 (Yellow-Red wire). If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity does exist, go to step  4.
  2. Disconnect harness-to-clockspring connector. Check for continuity between terminal No. 2 (Yellow-Red wire) of harness connector and terminal No. 11 (Yellow-Red wire) of ADU connector. If continuity does not exist, replace harness between harness-to-clockspring connector and ADU. If continuity exists, go to next step.
  3. Check for continuity between terminal No. 2 of clockspring-to-air bag module connector and terminal No. 2 (Yellow-Red wire) of harness-to- clockspring connector. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace clockspring. See CLOCKSPRING  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  4. Reconnect harness-to-clockspring connector. Check for continuity between ADU connector terminal No. 10 (Red wire) and terminal No. 3 of clockspring-to-air bag module connector. If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, replace driver-side air bag module. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  5. Disconnect wire harness-to-clockspring connector. Check for continuity between ADU terminal No. 10 (Red wire) and terminal No. 3 of harness connector. If continuity does not exist, replace wire harness between ADU and harness-to-clockspring connector. If continuity exists, go to next step.
  6. Check for continuity between terminal No. 2 of clockspring-to-air bag connector and terminal No. 3 (Red wire) of harness-to-clockspring connector. If continuity does not exist, replace clockspring. See CLOCKSPRING  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If continuity exists, replace driver-side air bag module. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
