DTC 53: Driver Module Short To Ground

NOTE: Refer to wiring diagram and Air Bag Diagnostic Unit (ADU) connector identification when diagnosing faults. See Figure & Figure .
  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Disconnect Air Bag Diagnostic Unit (ADU) connector and harness-to-clockspring connector. Measure continuity between ground and terminal No. 10 (Red wire) and-or terminal No. 11 (Yellow-Red wire) of ADU connector. If continuity exists, replace harness between ADU and clockspring connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect clockspring-to-air bag module connector. Check for continuity between ground and clockspring connector terminal No. 2 (Yellow-Red wire) and-or terminal No. 3 (Red wire). If continuity exists, replace clockspring. If continuity does not exist, replace driver-side air bag module.
