Engine - Hydraulic Lash Adjuster Noise

TITLE: HLA Noise

APPLIES TO: Optima V6

SERVICE TIP:

The Optima V6 engine may exhibit noticeable hydraulic lash adjuster (HLA) noise when new (dealer stock) or after sitting for an extended period of time. This is caused by air trapped inside HLAs.

Although the HLA noise will go away after a few miles of driving, the air can be purged from the HLAs quickly by the following procedure:
1. Warm engine to normal operating temperature.
2. Increase engine speed to 4000 rpm for 5 minutes.

If HLA noise occurs when performing PDI on V6 Optimas, it is recommended that this procedure be used to correct noise before vehicle is delivered to customer.
