DTC 56: Driver Module Open

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Remove driver-side air bag module. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect ADU connector. Measure resistance between ADU connector terminal No. 11 (Yellow-Red wire) and clockspring-to-driver side air bag module terminal No. 2 (Yellow-Red wire). If resistance is infinite, go to next step. If resistance is not infinite, go to step  4.
  2. Disconnect wire harness-to-clockspring connector. Measure resistance between ADU connector terminal No. 2 (Yellow-Red wire) and wire harness connector terminal No. 2 (Yellow-Red wire). If resistance is infinite, replace wire harness between ADU and clockspring. If resistance is not infinite, go to next step.
  3. Measure resistance between clockspring-to-wire harness connector terminal No. 2 and clockspring-to-driver-side air bag module connector terminal No. 2. If resistance is infinite, replace clockspring. See CLOCKSPRING  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is not infinite, go to next step.
  4. Connect wire harness-to-clockspring connector. Measure resistance between ADU connector terminal No. 10 (Yellow-Black wire) and terminal No. 3 of clockspring-to-driver side air bag connector. If resistance is infinite, go to next step. If resistance is not infinite, replace driver-side air bag module.
  5. Disconnect wire harness-to-clockspring connector. Measure resistance between ADU connector terminal No. 10 (Yellow-Black wire) terminal No. 3 of wire harness-to-clockspring connector. If resistance is infinite, replace wire harness between ADU connector and clockspring. If resistance is not infinite, go to next step.
  6. Measure resistance between clockspring-to-wire harness connector terminal No. 3 and clockspring-to-driver-side air bag module connector terminal No. 3. If resistance is infinite, replace clockspring. See CLOCKSPRING  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is not infinite, replace driver-side air bag module.
