Removal (1.5L)

  1. Remove all drive belts. Remove water pump pulley. Using a floor jack and wooden block, support engine. Remove front engine mount and bracket. Removing power steering pump and mounting bracket. Leaving hoses attached, suspend power steering pump and bracket aside. Remove oil dipstick tube. Remove upper timing belt cover. Rotate engine clockwise and align timing marks. See Figure.
    CAUTION: DO NOT rotate engine counterclockwise (as viewed from timing belt end of engine). If reusing timing belt, place reference mark on timing belt indicating direction of rotation before removing.
  2. Remove crankshaft pulley. Remove lower timing belt cover. Loosen timing belt tensioner adjusting bolt. Move tensioner inward toward water pump and temporarily tighten tensioner adjusting bolt. Remove timing belt.
