Installation (1.8L)
- Align timing marks. Install timing belt around crankshaft sprocket first, then water pump, then camshaft sprocket, and tensioner pulley last. Loosen timing belt tensioner to apply spring pressure to timing belt. Ensure all timing marks are aligned.
- Tighten timing belt tensioner bolt. Apply counterclockwise force to camshaft sprocket and ensure there is no slack in timing belt. Rotate crankshaft clockwise (as viewed from timing belt end of engine), 2 complete revolutions, ensuring timing marks are still aligned.
- Install crankshaft flange. See Fig 1. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Tighten all nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
