Sephia & Spectra

  1. Remove engine coolant temperature sensor. Place sensor into a heated container of water. Use ohmmeter to measure resistance from engine coolant temperature sensor terminal to sensor body. Resistance should be between 180-200 ohms at 122°F (50°C). If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified replace sensor.
  2. Reinstall engine coolant temperature sensor. Remove instrument cluster and disconnect instrument cluster 14-pin connector (C229). Measure resistance between ground and Brown/Yellow wire terminal of instrument cluster 14-pin connector. If resistance does not exist, repair short to ground in Brown/Yellow wire between instrument cluster 14-pin connector and engine coolant temperature sensor. If resistance is as specified in previous step, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified in previous step, check for short or open in Brown/Yellow wire.
  3. Measure resistance between Yellow wire, and Black wire and Brown/Yellow wire at instrument cluster. If resistance exists, system is okay. If resistance does not exist, replace engine coolant temperature gauge.
