Sephia & Spectra

  1. Check HEAD (25-amp), HEAD LOW (15-amp) and HEAD HI (15-amp) fuses in engine compartment fuse/relay box. If any fuses are blown, replace them. If all fuses are okay, remove headlight relay from engine compartment fuse/relay box and perform functional test on relay. See HEADLIGHT RELAY  under COMPONENT TESTS. Replace relay if it fails test. If relay is okay, reinstall in fuse/relay box and go to next step.
  2. Turn headlight switch on. Use voltmeter to check for battery voltage at combination switch Pink/Blue wire, Red/White wire and Red/Brown wire. If battery voltage is absent from any of these terminals, repair open circuit on affected wire between engine compartment fuse/relay box and combination switch. If all terminals have battery voltage, go to next step.
NOTE: If problem with headlights is related to high beams or flash-to-pass functions, go to step  6.
  3. With headlight switch still on, set dimmer switch to LOW position. Check for battery voltage at combination switch Red/Black wire. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, replace combination switch.
  4. Check for battery voltage at left and right headlight connector Red/Black wire. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open circuit in Red/Black wire between combination switch and HEAD LOW fuse, or in Red/Black wire between HEAD LOW fuse and headlight connector terminal No. 1.
  5. Disconnect headlight connector(s) and check for continuity between Black wire and ground. If continuity is indicated, replace headlight. If continuity is not indicated, repair open circuit to ground in Black wire.
  6. Set dimmer switch to HI position. Check for battery voltage at combination switch Red/Yellow wire. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, replace combination switch.
  7. Check for battery voltage at left and right headlight connector Red/Yellow wire. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open circuit in Red/Yellow wire between combination switch and HEAD HI fuse, or in Red/Yellow wire between HEAD HI fuse and headlight connector terminal No. 3.
  8. Disconnect headlight connector(s) and check for continuity between Black wire and ground. If continuity is indicated, replace headlight. If continuity is not indicated, repair open circuit to ground in Black wire.
  9. Turn headlight switch off. Pull turn signal lever backward to engage flash-to-pass feature. Check for battery voltage at combination switch connector Red/Yellow wire. If battery voltage is not present, replace combination switch.
