Tachometer Test

  1. On Sephia, locate Yellow/White wire that runs from transaxle control module to tachometer. On Sportage, locate Yellow/Blue wire that runs from ignition coil connector to tachometer. Use an ohmmeter to check for an open or short in wire. Repair wire as necessary. If wire is okay, and tachometer is inoperative, replace tachometer. To verify tachometer is accurate, go to next step.
  2. Connect test tachometer to ignition coil. Start engine. Compare vehicle tachometer reading with test tachometer reading. Vehicle tachometer reading must be within allowable range. See TACHOMETER VARIATION SPECIFICATIONS  table. If tachometer reading is not within specifications, replace tachometer.
