Integrated Electric Oil Pump (IEP): Notes
When performing any repairs that involve contact with high voltage components or systems, the technician performing repairs on the vehicle must verify that the system remains powered down during high voltage repairs.
- This must be done by removing the service disconnect or high voltage disabling device.
- The high voltage power down procedure must also be performed to ensure that the vehicle is properly powered down.
- The technician must know the whereabouts of the service disconnect or high voltage disabling device throughout the repair.
- The technician must ensure that no one reconnects the service disconnect or high voltage disabling device while service is being performed.
- The technician must recheck that the service disconnect or high voltage disabling device has not been reinstalled in cases where the vehicle was unattended.
Failure to comply with all these warnings may result in personal injury including burn, shock, or fatal injury.
Before performing any diagnostic or service procedure, you must thoroughly read and follow all applicable high voltage safety procedures. You must perform the high voltage power down procedures.
Loss of Isolation (LOI) must be performed before high voltage power up in cases where service has been performed on a high-voltage component or when diagnosing a LOI condition.
Be sure to use the proper safety equipment when working on any high voltage system or component. Failure to do so may result in serious or fatal injury.
Wait a minimum of two minutes after performing the high voltage battery disconnect procedure before attempting to access the high voltage system. Failure to do so may result in serious or fatal injury.
Dirt Intrusion Caution Water Intrusion Caution Fragile Warning Caution
To prevent dirt which might damage or impair the seal from entering, fit the protective caps included in the specific equipment onto the disconnected electrical connections.
The high voltage wiring is a very fragile, delicate component, so it must be handled with the greatest care. The pre-formed elbows must not be straightened.
Do not allow liquids to come into contact with the high voltage component electric connections, since they would create a conductive path and thus cause loss of insulation. These substances would be difficult to remove and the contaminated high voltage component would have to be replaced.
The Transmission Control Module (TCM), or Transmission Control Module Assembly (TCMA) is extremely sensitive to Electrostatic Discharge (ESD). Always use a ground strap and follow the ESD guidelines in ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE SENSITIVE DEVICES. Failure to follow these instructions may result in damage to the TCM/TCMA.
REMOVAL
- Power down the High Voltage system. Refer to HIGH VOLTAGE POWER DOWN .
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Cover the high voltage wiring harness connector and carefully position the transmission high voltage cable aside.
- Remove the PHEV - front skid plate brace. Refer to CROSSMEMBER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the stiffening plate. Refer to PLATE, STIFFENING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove push-pins holding the support caps and remove the cap.
1 - Push-Pins 2 - Crossmember Support Cap - Loosen the bolts that attach components to the transmission skid plates with slotted holes.
1 - Support to Transmission Crossmember Fasteners 2 - Support to Body Fasteners - Remove the support to body fasteners.
- Remove the Support to transmission crossmember fasteners remove the crossmember.
- Remove the bolts and the blocker from the transmission.
1 - Blocker to Transmission Bolts 2 - Blocker Screw 3 - Blocker - Remove the fasteners and remove the high voltage trough from the vehicle.
1 - High Voltage Trough Bolt 2 - Cable Ties 3 - High Voltage Trough Nut 4 - High Voltage Trough - Remove the bolts from the transmission high voltage cable connector.
1 - Transmission High Voltage Cable Connector Bolts 2 - Bolt 3 - High Voltage Connector to PIM - Drain the transmission fluid into a clean container. Refer to FLUID/FILTER SERVICE .
- Remove the oil pan bolts.
1 - Oil Pan Bolts 2 - Transmission Oil Pan Assembly - Remove the transmission pan assembly and gasket.
- Disconnect the IEP LIN wire harness connector.
1 - Integrated Electric Oil Pump (IEP) 2 - IEP Bolts 3 - IEP LIN Wire Harness Connector - Remove the IEP bolts and the IEP.
- If necessary, remove the IEP intake duct.

INSPECTION
- Inspect the transmission oil pan gasket for reuse. If the gasket is cut or torn, replace the gasket.
- Inspect the IEP intake duct. Replace the duct if damaged.
INSTALLATION
Follow the removal procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle. The steps listed below are calling out specific procedures that should be followed during installation.
- Power up the high voltage system. Refer to HIGH VOLTAGE POWER UP .
- Power up the 12-volt system. Refer to 12 VOLT BATTERY CONNECT .
- Fill the transmission with appropriate fluid. Refer to TRANSMISSION FILL AFTER SERVICE .
