Diagnostic Test
- READ AND RECORD DTCS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DATA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR THE DTC TO RETURN
- With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
- For future reference, with the scan tool, run and save a vehicle Scan Report and all related recorded data.
- With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Using the When Monitored and Set Conditions above and recorded data, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION procedure. Refer to TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK THE VOLTAGE OF THE (C91) POWER SUPPLY AND (C986) RETURN CIRCUIT AT THE CSWSM HARNESS CONNECTOR
- Turn the ignition off.NOTE:
DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR ALL LIN BUS RELATED DTC'S BEFORE PERFORMING THIS TEST PROCEDURE
- Disconnect the CSWSM harness connector.
- Start the engine.
- Measure the voltage of the (C91) Power Supply circuit at the CSWSM harness connector.
- Measure the voltage of the (C986) Return circuit at the CSWSM harness connector.NOTE:
When probing a circuit at an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) connector, always use an appropriate probing tool to prevent any possible damage to the ECU terminals.
Is there voltage present on either circuit?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Go To 6
- Turn the ignition off.
- ISOLATE AND CHECK THE (C91) POWER SUPPLY AND (C986) RETURN CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE BETWEEN THE CSWSM HARNESS CONNECTOR AND THE SCCM C1 HARNESS CONNECTOR WARNING:
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Remove the Driver Airbag in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to DRIVER AIR BAG .
- Disconnect the SCCM C1 harness connector.WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Start the engine.
- Measure the voltage of the (C91) Power Supply circuit at the SCCM C1 harness connector.
- Measure the voltage of the (C986) Return circuit at the SCCM C1 harness connector.NOTE:
When probing a circuit at an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) connector, always use an appropriate probing tool to prevent any possible damage to the ECU terminals.
Is there voltage present on either circuit?
Yes
- Repair the circuit(s) for a short to voltage.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 4
- ISOLATE AND CHECK THE (C91) POWER SUPPLY AND (C986) RETURN CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE WITHIN THE SCCM
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the SCCM C4 harness connector.
- Start the engine.
- Measure the voltage of the (C91) Power Supply circuit at either SCCM component connector.
- Measure the voltage of the (C986) Return circuit at either SCCM component connector.NOTE:
When probing a circuit at an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) connector, always use an appropriate probing tool to prevent any possible damage to the ECU terminals.
Is there voltage present on either circuit?
Yes
- Replace the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, STEERING COLUMN CONTROL (SCCM), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- ISOLATE AND CHECK THE (C91) POWER SUPPLY AND (C986) RETURN CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE BETWEEN THE SCCM C4 HARNESS CONNECTOR AND THE HSW HARNESS CONNECTOR(S)
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the HSW harness connector(s).
- Start the engine.
- Measure the voltage of the (C91) Power Supply circuit at the HSW harness connector(s).
- Measure the voltage of the (C986) Return circuit at the HSW harness connector(s).NOTE:
When probing a circuit at an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) connector, always use an appropriate probing tool to prevent any possible damage to the ECU terminals.
Is there voltage present on either circuit?
Yes
- Repair the circuit(s) for a short to voltage.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replace the Heated Steering Wheel (HSW) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to WHEEL, STEERING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect all CSWSM harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Reconnect all CSWSM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10 seconds.
- Start the Engine.
- Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read CSWSM DTCs.NOTE:
The HSW must be turned off when checking for this short to voltage DTC.
Is the same DTC active?
Yes
- Replace the Comfort Seat Wheel Surface Module (CSWSM) in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Repairing the wiring harness or connections corrected the problem.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
