Valve Timing Verification

SECONDARY TIMING CHAIN VERIFICATION
Correct timing is critical for the NON free-wheeling designed engine. Engine timing can be verified by using the following procedures:
- Remove the timing cover. Refer to COVER(S), ENGINE TIMING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the spark plugs. Refer to SPARK PLUG, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Place cylinder No. 1 at Top Dead Center (TDC).NOTE:
DO NOT USE THE GREEN REFERENCE MARK ON THE INTAKE AND EXHAUST PHASER TO TIME THE ENGINE
NOTE:The green line on the intake phaser is only used as a reference to where the intake phaser timing mark is located. The green line on the exhaust phaser is only used as a reference to where the exhaust phaser timing mark is located.
- Verify that the intake phaser timing mark and the exhaust phaser timing mark alignment with dark colored chain links.
1 - Intake Phaser Timing Mark 2 - Exhaust Phaser Timing Mark 3 - Fuel Pump Camshaft Sprocket Timing Mark - Verify that the fuel pump camshaft sprocket mark aligns with the pink chain link.
