Disassembly And Assembly - Off Vehicle

DISASSEMBLY 

The intake and exhaust springs are NOT interchangeable. Mark the springs accordingly for installation. Correctly identify the part numbers for new springs being installed.

1 - Valve Spring Compressor
  1. Install the (special tool #10224, Adapter, Valve Spring) on the (special tool #C-3422-D, Compressor, Valve Spring).
  2. Install the valve spring compressor on the cylinder head.

  3. Using the (special tool #10224, Adapter, Valve Spring) mounted in the (special tool #C-3422-D, Compressor, Valve Spring), compress valve spring and remove the valve spring retaining locks and discard them.
    NOTE:

    The intake and exhaust springs are NOT interchangeable. Mark the springs accordingly for installation. Correctly identify the part numbers for new springs being installed.

    NOTE:

    If the springs are to be reused, identify their positions so that they can be reassembled into their original locations.

  4. Release the valve spring compression and remove the valve spring retainer, and valve spring.

  5. Remove the valve guide seal.

  6. Before removing the valves, remove any burrs from the valve stem retainer lock grooves and stem tip.
  7. Remove the valve(s). Identify each valve to ensure installation in the original location.
  8. If the valve face requires resurfacing. Refer to INTAKE AND EXHAUST VALVES REFACING  .

ASSEMBLY 

Follow the disassembly procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle. The steps listed below are calling out specific procedures that should be followed during installation.
