Engine Removal And Installation: Notes

REMOVAL
CAUTION:
To prevent coolant pooling in the injector bore(s), place an absorbent towel in the valley and over the injector bores. If coolant is accidentally spilled over top of the engine, apply compressed air into each injector bore until all coolant is visually evacuated.
- Drain the engine oil. Refer to ENGINE OIL AND FILTER CHANGE .
- Remove the starter. Refer to
STARTER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
.NOTE:
It is not necessary to fully remove the air reservoir from vehicle.
- If equipped, remove the air reservoir and position aside. Refer to RESERVOIR, AIR SUSPENSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the flexplate to torque converter bolts.
1 - Flexplate to Torque Converter Bolt - Remove the lower engine to transmission bolts, leaving the upper in place.
1 - Engine to Transmission Bolts - Remove the body. Refer to BODY, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the catalytic convertors. Refer to CONVERTER, CATALYTIC, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the front bumper reinforcement. Refer to REINFORCEMENT, BUMPER, FRONT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the fasteners and position aside the wire harness (front of engine).
- Remove the refrigerant lines from the A/C compressor.
1 - Refrigerant Lines to A/C Compressor Nut 2 - A/C Compressor - Remove the A/C line retainer and the A/C lines from the vehicle.
1 - A/C Line Retainer - Remove the heater hose assembly.
1 - Heater Hose Assembly - Disconnect the heater supply hose.
1 - Heater Supply Hose 2 - Heater Return Hose 3 - Coolant Hose 4 - Lower Radiator Hose - Disconnect the heater return hose and remove the heater hoses.
- Disconnect the coolant hose from the back of the water pump.
- Disconnect and remove the lower radiator hose from the water pump.
- Disconnect the vapor line quick-connect fitting from the rear of engine and position aside (right side).
- Disconnect the fuel line quick-connect fitting from the rear of engine and position aside (right side).
1 - Lock 2 - Fuel Line Quick-Connect Fitting - Disconnect the Charge Air Cooler (CAC) coolant temperature sensor wire harness connector.
1 - Charge Air Cooler Coolant Temperature Sensor Wire Harness Connector - Disconnect the and remove CAC outlet coolant hose.
1 - Charge Air Cooler Outlet Coolant Hose - Remove the transmission wire harness retainers and position aside the wire harness (right side).
- Disconnect and remove the CAC inlet coolant hose.
1 - Charge Air Cooler Inlet Coolant Hose - Disconnect and remove the upper radiator hose.
1 - Upper Radiator Hose Assembly - Remove the nut and the ground wire above the generator.
- Remove the cap, nut and the B+ wire from the back of the generator.
- Remove the wire harness retainers and position aside the generator wire harness.
- Disconnect the transmission cooler hose from the top of bell housing.
1 - Transmission Cooler Hose 2 - Transmission Vent Tube Retainer - Detach the transmission vent tube retainer.
- Remove the transmission cooler hose bolt.
1 - Transmission Cooler Hose Bolt 2 - Transmission Cooler Line Bolt - Remove the transmission cooler line bolt and position aside the coolant lines.
- Remove the exhaust bracket bolt.
1 - Exhaust Bracket To Transmission Bell Housing Bolts 2 - Exhaust Bracket 3 - Exhaust Bracket to Transmission Bolt - Remove the exhaust bracket to transmission bell housing bolts and the exhaust bracket.
- Remove the transmission cooler line nut securing the transmission cooler line bracket to the bottom of the A/C compressor.
1 - Transmission Cooler Line Nut 2 - Transmission Cooler Line Bracket - Remove the transmission cooler line nut securing the transmission cooler line to the bottom of the oil pan.
1 - Transmission Cooler Line Nut - Remove the pinion bracket to front axle bolts.
1 - Pinion Bracket to Front Axle Bolts - Remove the coolant tube bolt and position aside the coolant tube.
1 - Coolant Tube Bolt 2 - Pinion Bracket Bolts 3 - Pinion Bracket - Remove the pinion bracket bolts and the pinion bracket.
- Remove the shift cable bracket nut and the shift cable bracket from the left engine mount.
1 - Shift Cable Bracket Nut 2 - Shift Cable Bracket 3 - Shift Cable Retainer - Remove the shifter cable retainer.
- Remove the left side engine mount heat shield.
1 - Heat Shield Nut 2 - Heat Shield - Install the front engine lift bracket (special tool #2079800090, Kit, Engine Lift Bracket 3.0L) and securely tighten the bolts.
1 - Front Engine Lift Bracket 2 - Lift Bracket Bolts - Install the rear engine lift bracket (special tool #2079800090, Kit, Engine Lift Bracket 3.0L) and securely tighten the bolts.
1 - Rear Engine Lift Bracket 2 - Lift Bracket Bolts - Install the engine lift fixture adapter.
1 - Engine Lift Fixture Adapter - Setup and install the engine lift.
- Remove the left engine mount to engine mount bracket bolt.
1 - Left Engine Mount to Engine Mount Bracket Bolts 2 - Left Engine Mount - Remove the right engine mount to engine mount bracket bolt.
1 - Engine Mount Bolt 2 - Engine Mount 3 - Engine Mount to Engine Mount Bracket Bolt - Remove the right engine mount to engine mount bracket bolts.
1 - Engine Mount to Engine Mount Bracket Bolts 2 - Engine Mount - Support the transmission with a suitable jack.
- Remove the remaining engine to transmission bolts.
1 - Engine to Transmission Bolts - Separate the engine from the transmission and remove the engine from the vehicle.
- If replacing the engine, transfer necessary parts as required to the replacement engine.
INSTALLATION
Follow the removal procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle.
