Catalytic Converter: Notes

REMOVAL
- Remove the engine cover.
- Remove the rear catalytic converter heat shield. Refer to REAR CATALYTIC CONVERTER HEAT SHIELD .
- Saturate the necessary fasteners with Mopar® rust penetrant. Allow 5 minutes for penetration.
- Disconnect the both front catalytic converter Oxygen (O2) sensor wire harness connectors.
- Remove the left front wheelhouse splash shield. Refer to FRONT WHEELHOUSE SPLASH SHIELD .
- Remove the both front catalytic converter O2 sensors. Refer to OXYGEN SENSOR(S) .
- Remove the both rear catalytic converter O2 sensors. Refer to OXYGEN SENSOR(S)

1 - Front Turbocharger to Catalytic Converter Clamp Bolt 4 - Rear Catalytic Converter to Bracket Nuts 2 - Rear Turbocharger to Catalytic Converter Clamp Bolt 5 - Front Catalytic Converter to Bracket Nuts 3 - Rear Catalytic Converter 6 - Front Catalytic Converter - Loosen the rear turbocharger to catalytic converter clamp bolt.
- Loosen the front turbocharger to catalytic converter clamp bolt.
- Remove the front driveshaft. Refer to FRONT DRIVESHAFT .
- Remove the rear exhaust pipe. Refer to REAR EXHAUST PIPE .
- Remove the shifter cable from transmission.
- Remove the shifter cable bracket fasteners and position aside the shifter cable bracket.
1 - Front Turbocharger to Catalytic Converter Clamp Bolt 4 - Rear Catalytic Converter to Bracket Nuts 2 - Rear Turbocharger to Catalytic Converter Clamp Bolt 5 - Front Catalytic Converter to Bracket Nuts 3 - Rear Catalytic Converter 6 - Front Catalytic Converter - Remove the front and rear catalytic converter to bracket nuts.
1 - Exhaust Bracket to Transmission Bell Housing Bolts 2 - Exhaust Bracket 3 - Exhaust Bracket to Transmission Bolt - Position the front and rear catalytic converter aside to gain access to the exhaust bracket bolts.
- Remove the exhaust bracket bolt.
- Remove the exhaust bracket to transmission bell housing bolts and the exhaust bracket.
1 - Stabilizer Bar Bolts 2 - Stabilizer Bar Nuts - Remove the stabilizer bar bolts, nuts and reposition the stabilizer bar.
1 - Front Turbocharger to Catalytic Converter V-band Clamp Bolt 4 - Rear Catalytic Converter Bracket Nuts 2 - Rear Turbocharger to Catalytic Converter V-band Clamp Bolt 5 - Rear Catalytic Converter Bracket Nuts 3 - Rear Catalytic Converter 6 - Front Catalytic Converter - Remove the front and rear catalytic converter and discard the V-band clamps.
INSTALLATION
Follow the removal procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle. The steps listed below are calling out specific procedures that should be followed during installation.
- Install a NEW V-band clamp on the front and rear catalytic converter.
- Check the exhaust system for contact with the body panels. A minimum of 25.4 mm (1.0 in.) is required between the exhaust system components and body/frame parts. Make the necessary adjustments, if needed.
- Check the exhaust system leaks. Refer to LEAK TESTING .
