Component Functional Description - Oil Pump Solenoid

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2024 Jeep Grand Wagoneer L and 2024 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The mechanical Engine Oil Pump pressure is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM controls the Oil Pump Solenoid based on the oil temperature, coolant temperature, and engine operating conditions. The Oil Pump Solenoid cannot be controlled with the scan tool. The Oil Pump Solenoid will default to high pressure if there is an open in the control circuit. The oil pressure and temperature can be monitored in the scan tool. The HO engine will maintain pressure from idle to 3000 RPM. The SO engine will drop slightly over idle and return to normal as it reaches 3000 RPM. See the oil pressure specifications in the table below:

SO OIL PRESSURE SPECIFICATION
ENGINE SPEED OIL PRESSURE SPECIFICATION
Idle (750 RPM) 168 kPa (24.4 psi)
1000 - 2650 rpm 132-170 kPa (132-24.7 psi)
NOTE:

Engine oil at normal operating temperatures 100° C (212° F)

CAUTION:

If engine oil pressure is zero at idle, DO NOT RUN THE ENGINE.

HO OIL PRESSURE SPECIFICATION
ENGINE SPEED OIL PRESSURE SPECIFICATION
Idle (750 RPM) 140 kPa (20.3 psi)
1000 - 2650 rpm 140 kPa (20.3 psi)
NOTE:

Engine oil at normal operating temperatures 100° C (212° F)

CAUTION:

If engine oil pressure is zero at idle, DO NOT RUN THE ENGINE.
