Functional Description - Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2024 Jeep Grand Wagoneer L and 2024 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The CKP sensor receives a 5-volt reference and sensor ground from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM receives a 5-volt square wave signal from the CKP Sensor. The CKP signal is used to determine engine speed and crankshaft position relative to the cylinders. The CKP sensor signal is the primary input used for spark control. The signal is also used for fuel injection timing and crank/cam alignment.
