Functional Description - Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2024 Jeep Grand Wagoneer L and 2024 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
The CMP sensor receives a 5-volt reference and sensor ground from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM receives a 5-volt square wave signal from the CMP Sensor. The CMP signals primary purpose is used to determine camshaft and mechanical valve timing position relative to the cylinders. The CMP sensor signal is used in conjunction with the Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor for fuel injection timing and crank/cam alignment.
