Removal And Installation: Transmission: Notes
Orange is the warning color used to identify high voltage parts. These warning labels are attached to the high-voltage battery pack.
When performing any repairs that involve contact with high voltage components or systems, the technician performing repairs on the vehicle must verify that the system remains powered down during high voltage repairs.
- This must be done by removing the service disconnect or high voltage disabling device.
- The high voltage power down procedure must also be performed to ensure that the vehicle is properly powered down.
- The technician must know the whereabouts of the service disconnect or high voltage disabling device throughout the repair.
- The technician must ensure that no one reconnects the service disconnect or high voltage disabling device while service is being performed.
- The technician must recheck that the service disconnect or high voltage disabling device has not been reinstalled in cases where the vehicle was unattended.
Failure to comply with all these warnings may result in personal injury including burn, shock, or fatal injury.
Before performing any diagnostic or service procedure, you must thoroughly read and follow all applicable high voltage safety procedures. You must perform the high voltage power down procedures.
Loss of Isolation (LOI) must be performed before high voltage power up in cases where service has been performed on a high-voltage component or when diagnosing a LOI condition.
Be sure to use the proper safety equipment when working on any high voltage system or component. Failure to do so may result in serious or fatal injury.
Wait a minimum of two minutes after performing the high voltage battery disconnect procedure before attempting to access the high voltage system. Failure to do so may result in serious or fatal injury.
Dirt Intrusion Caution
To prevent dirt which might damage or impair the seal from entering, fit the protective caps included in the specific equipment onto the disconnected electrical connections.
Water Intrusion Caution
Do not allow liquids to come into contact with the high voltage component electric connections, since they would create a conductive path and thus cause loss of insulation. These substances would be difficult to remove and the contaminated high voltage component would have to be replaced.
Fragile Wiring Caution
The high voltage wiring is a very fragile, delicate component, so it must be handled with the greatest care. The pre-formed elbows must not be straightened.
REMOVAL
- Power down the 12-volt system. Refer to BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .
- Power down the high voltage system. Refer to HIGH VOLTAGE POWER DOWN .
- Remove the lower cowl extension cover. Refer to SILENCER, COWL EXTENSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Remove the transmission crossmember support. Refer to PHEV - TRANSMISSION CROSSMEMBER SUPPORT .
- Remove the transmission mount to crossmember nuts.
1 - Transmission Mount to Transmission Crossmember Nuts - Lower the vehicle.
- Raise the transmission mount off of the crossmember using a suitable jack.
1 - Upper High Pressure Fuel Pump Shield Bolt 2 - High Pressure Fuel Pump Shield Isolator Bolts (Not Removed) 3 - High Pressure Fuel Pump Shield - Remove upper high pressure fuel pump shield bolt.
- Remove the transfer case. Refer to MPT3028C - PHEV .
- Remove the high voltage cable from the transmission. Refer to POWER INVERTER MODULE (PIM) TO TRANSMISSION .
- Remove the high voltage cable brackets from the transmission.
- Disconnect the Manual Park Release (MPR) cable from the MPR lever. Remove the MPR cable bracket to transmission bolts and position the cable aside.
1 - Manual Park Release Cable Bracket Bolts 2 - Manual Park Release Bracket and Cable Assembly 3 - Manual Park Release Cable End - Disconnect the 13-pin transmission wire connector. Turn the connector counter-clockwise to release.
1 - Transmission Wire Harness Connector - Disconnect the Integrated Electric Oil Pump (IEP) wire harness connector.
- Remove the coolant line retainer nut.
1 - High Voltage Harness Trough Double Ended Stud 2 - Coolant Line Retainer Nut 3 - Coolant Line Retainer 4 - High Voltage Harness Trough Double Ended Stud - Remove the double ended studs that secure the Motor Generator Unit (MGU) harness trough to the transmission and position the wiring aside.
- Remove the transfer case wiring trough bolts and position the wiring aside.
- Remove the transmission oil cooler line bracket to engine bolts.
1 - Front Transmission Oil Cooler Line Bracket to Engine Oil Pan Bolt 2 - Rear Transmission Oil Cooler Line Bracket Bolt to Engine Oil Pan Bolt 3 - Transmission Oil Cooler Thermal Bypass Valve - Disconnect the transmission cooler line bundle from the transmission.
1 - Transmission Oil Cooler Line to Transmission Bolt 2 - Transmission Oil Cooler line Quick Connect Fitting 3 - Transmission Oil Cooler Line Bundle - Disconnect the resolver harness connector.
- Disconnect the P2 temperature sensor harness connector.
- Remove all remaining wiring harness retainers from the transmission.
- Disconnect transmission vent hose.
- Remove the exhaust bracket.
1 - Exhaust Bracket 2 - Exhaust Bracket Nuts 3 - Exhaust Bracket Bolts - Remove the high pressure fuel pump shield nuts and shield.NOTE:
Be careful not to damage the engine oil pan when using the stand. Use a rubber or wood block between the pan and the stand to support the engine.
- Support engine with a suitable stand before removing transmission.
1 - Engine Block to Bellhousing Bolts (Double Ended Studs) 2 - Engine Oil Pan to Bellhousing Bolts - Remove the transmission to engine fasteners.
- Secure the transmission to a suitable jack.
- Carefully maneuver the transmission rearward off of the engine block dowels and remove the assembly.NOTE:
Be careful not to damage or bend the external transmission oil lines.
INSTALLATION
Follow the removal procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle. The steps listed below are calling out specific procedures that should be followed during installation.
- If a replacement transmission is being installed, transfer any components necessary.
- Power up the high voltage system. Refer to HIGH VOLTAGE POWER UP .
- Power up the 12-volt system. Refer to BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .
- If the transmission or valve body has been replaced, program the Transmission Control Module (TCM).
- If the transmission has been replaced, using the scan tool, perform the Resolver Offset Relearn Trigger procedure.
- Fill the transmission with appropriate fluid. Refer to TRANSMISSION FILL AFTER SERVICE .
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
