Theory Of Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The purpose of this diagnostic is to monitor the Park Pawl Sensor for electrical failures. There are two park position switches that make up the sensor. These electrical failures include short to battery, short to ground, open circuit or if the voltage is outside of a valid range on either of the two pins of the Park Pawl Sensor. The park Pawl Sensor is integrated into the TCM and is serviced by replacing the TCM.
