Theory Of Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor consists of two separate internal sensors. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) uses the two APP Sensor signals to read the position of the accelerator pedal. A ground check of the APP 2 Sensor Ground circuit is performed a number of times per second to ensure proper functionality of the PCM internal ground circuit. Secondary software will determine if the PCM internal ground circuit is operating correctly.
