Checking Engine Oil Pressure

  1. Remove the oil pressure sensor. Refer to ENGINE OIL PRESSURE (EOP) SENSOR .
  2. Install gauge assembly (special tool #C-3292A, Gauge, Pressure).
  3. Run the engine until the thermostat opens.
  4. Oil Pressure:
    • Curb Idle-25 kPa (4 psi) minimum amount of pressure to lubricate engine
    • 1000 rpm-234 kPa (34 psi) for a VVT engine to activate VVT
    • 3000 rpm-170 - 758 kPa (25 - 110 psi)
  5. If oil pressure is 0 at idle, shut off engine. Check for a clogged oil pick-up screen or a pressure relief valve stuck open.
