Clutch C - Disassembly And Adjustments

CLUTCH C MEASUREMENT PROCEDURE
- (special tool #10429, Gauge, Force), place Clutch C in a suitable arbor press (with the backing plate facing up).
Using (special tool #8901A, Pressing Tool) and
- Apply 200 N (45 lbf.) of force to the Clutch C to compress the wave plate.
1 - Force Gauge 2 - Pressing Tool 3 - Clutch C - With a suitable feeler gauge, measure the gap between the Clutch C backing plate and the Clutch C retainer.
- Refer to clutch clearance table for specifications. If clearance is not within specifications, a thinner or thicker selectable backing plate can be installed to achieve proper clearance.

DISASSEMBLY Clutch C, depending on transmission Julian date, may contain wave springs that sit around each friction plate.

DISASSEMBLY
- Place Clutch C in a suitable press.
- Using (special tool #8680A, Installer, Damper), compress Clutch C as needed to remove the snap ring.
1 - Damper Installer 2 - Clutch C 3 - Snap Ring - Remove the snap ring.
- Remove the Clutch C retainer.
1 - Clutch C Retainer - Remove the Clutch C piston.
1 - Clutch C Piston - Remove the Clutch C belleville spring.
1 - Clutch C Belleville Spring - Remove the Clutch C wave plate.
1 - Clutch C Wave Plate - Remove the friction plates and the steel plates.
1 - Wave Plate 2 - Friction Plates 3 - Backing Plate 4 - Steel Plates - Remove the backing plate.
1 - Backing Plate - Separate the Clutch C shaft from the Clutch C hub.
1 - Clutch C Shaft 2 - Clutch C Hub - Remove and DISCARD
the O-rings from the Clutch C shaft.

ASSEMBLY
NOTE:
If clutch discs are being replaced, soak in 8HP trans fluid before assembly.
- Install NEW
the O-rings on the Clutch C shaft.
1 - Clutch C Shaft 2 - O-Rings - Install Clutch C hub onto the Clutch C shaft.
1 - Clutch C Shaft 2 - Clutch C Hub - Install the backing plate.
1 - Backing Plate - Install friction plates and steel plates.
1 - Wave Plate 2 - Friction Plates 3 - Backing Plate 4 - Steel Plates - Install the wave plate.
1 - Clutch C Wave Plate - Install the belleville spring.
1 - Clutch C Belleville Spring - Install the Clutch C piston.
1 - Clutch C Piston - Install the Clutch C retainer.
1 - Clutch C Retainer - Place Clutch C in a suitable press.
1 - Damper Installer 2 - Clutch C 3 - Snap Ring - Using (special tool #8680A, Installer, Damper), compress the clutch enough to install the snap ring.
- Install the snap ring.
- Using (special tool #8901A, Pressing Tool) and (special tool #10429, Gauge, Force) measure the Clutch C clearance. Refer to clutch clearance chart for specifications.
